The wind-up mechanism is the "world's most efficient human energy conversion system". The winder can be cranked in both directions and the harder it is cranked, the more energy you create. A crank level LED indicates the optimum winding speed, but the only limitation to how much energy you can create and store is you.
The radio is housed in a well designed solid but see-through casing with rubberised and recessed control knobs and a tough, glass re-enforced Nylon cranking handle. A finely geared mechanical tuning system ensures accurate control in selecting your preferred station. On top there's a highly efficient and robust solar panel which is power the radio and charge the radio at the same time. Even when you're not using it the radio will charge itself up if left in the sun.
