With this switch can I have each set of speakers operating at a different volume, ie 1 on and 1 off, both on etc? From the 2 knobs on the front I assume each set has its own volume knob.

If you want to change the volume you would need a volume control in addition to the switch. You can control ON/OFF with the switch.
