What is the maximum depth these speaker can operate at? Do you have any smaller versions of hte speaker? BR Simon

They have been tested up to and icluding 25m depth (on a harbour wall to deter seals). There are no smaller versions.

Can these be retrofitted to a pool? we have drained a gunnite base and mosaic-lined pool. What sort of niche and cable run is required to fit these speakers into it? Could the cable be fed via an existing 9-inch standard pool light fitting?

Hi, Is it possible to use it in a tiny volume of water (like a spa ?) Otherwise, do you know any other model that would suit that use ?

You can use the speaker in any sized body of water.

Sound waves are easily disrupted by water currents, so any underwater speaker would not be heard as clearly in a situation involving moving water, such as endless pools, and those using underwater jets.

Hi their I have got this speaker for my syncro team, would you be able to tell me the wiring information for the speakers. It has four wires red, blue, yellow and green, what does each wire do?

Chris says:

As far as I am aware, we have never manufactured any with a 4-core cable, are you sure that is correct.

The normal cable is 2-core, the colours are either brown and blue (in which case brown is positive) or red and black (where red is positive). On occasion, we have produced special orders which use 3-core cable, where the third core is either green or green and yellow striped - this is the earth (which is not required for a standard installation). There would be no purpose for a fourth wire.

How do I connect the speaker lead to a cd player i.e.what type of jack is at the end of the cable?

The cable does not have a connector on the end. This allows you to connect it to most Hi-Fi type amplifiers. If your amplifier has a plug-type connection, you will need to add your own connector.

You will need to connect the underwater speaker to an amplifier, however you could connect your iPod to the amp.

The speaker will work with any amp which is capable of providing 30 watts of output at 8 Ohms.

What height from the floor of the pool should these speakers be mounted? What dispersion characteristics do they have? How do i calculate how many i need for a pool of irregular shape?

We suggest the UWS30 is positioned half way down in the deep end and something similar in the swallow end. If the pool is 25m long two UWS30 should be sufficient. But it also depends on customer requirements

On these underwater speakers can you hear them above the water? if so, with what clarity? and are they less intrusive to neighbors than outdoor garden speakers. Thanks

Greg,
The speakers are designed specifically for use underwater and for moving the greater mass inherent in a water based sound medium. You can hear them above water but only just and certainly not to the extent that the sound is any use at all.

If you require outdoor speakers that cause little nuisance to neighbors, this can be acheived by the careful siting and positioning of the speakers (installing in the eaves under the roof overhang, and pointing downwards for example) and by restricting the output to under 10 Watts. Contrary to popular belief, the output wattage for speakers can be quite low - supermarket speakers may be on 1 or 2 Watts only.

Does this product need permanent installation or can it be placed on the pool floor when required?

Chris says:

No, the unit can be lowered and raised as you wish without any permanent fixing to the pool. Certainly it can be fixed if you wish - but it is neither essential nor makes any difference to the sound quality - which is good in either case.
